Mr. Coyle was a former English teacher, Family Living teacher, and Guidance Counselor and Boys Track coach.

Of all the teachers at SHS, Mr. Coyle had the most impact on my education. He mentored me in and out of the classroom, and as a track & field coach. He "recruited" me to high jump, and run sprints. After a few practices, it was evident that distance running suited me better (mile, half mile, and quarter mile). He encouraged me in my distant running which resulted in a school record in the mile, at the time. He was a fantastic teacher and coach, being tough at times but always conveying a love for his students. It was obvious he put his students first. I often wondered when he may have passed away but will always remember him as the embodiment of what a teacher should be.
